Nara * JLPT

I have been taking lessons with Nara for a few months now. Currently, we are brushing up on some N3 material before beginning preparation for the N2 next December. Nara is extremely hard working. Her teaching doesn't stop when the lesson does. She always gives homework and provides feedback on not only mistakes but where you could sound more natural. Sometimes, she'll even throw in some additional resources. Every lesson, she is positive, friendly, and conversational but does a good job of keeping the lesson on course and makes sure we are tracking towards the day's objectives. I would highly recommend Nara. Especially if you are seriously prepping for the N3/N2!

奈良さん is probably the only person I’d happily get up at 6.30am for 😂 Love that our conversations can span a whole range of topics — from current affairs to our respective cultures & traditions to hobbies to our mutual love for cats… and the list goes on! Real life has been keeping me busy so I haven’t been able to actively work on grammar and vocab outside of our lessons but thanks to 奈良さん, I pick up lots of new vocabulary words during our sessions, many of which I’m more likely to remember due to the contexts of our humorous conversations. I’ve also managed to maintain my conversational and listening abilities despite no longer residing in Japan — skills that I’ve always prioritised. I also do get reading practice thanks to the interesting articles 奈良さん sources for me. And more than anything, I’m so grateful to have found an amazing friend in 奈良さん 🤍

At this point, I have had over 20 conversational lessons with 奈良先生, and I really like her teaching style. She focuses on helping me express myself as much as possible. She is supportive, patient, friendly, asking questions, and shows interest, but above all, she is always there to help me better express myself. I choose the topics and she helps me discuss them while being careful to limit the rate of new vocabulary so we can really focus on the conversation. My family members have commented on my classes, saying that it sounds like I am having fun. Yes indeed, I am having a blast! At the same time, my abilities to lead conversations about the topics that I care about has grown by leaps and bounds.

I love lessons with 奈良さん! They are fun-filled conversations where I am always fully engaged. Not only am I getting lots of speaking practice in, as I recount my experiences to 奈良さん and she in turn asks me thoughtful questions about them, I am also able to reflect upon and take stock of the things that I have done in a given week. This isn't always possible with my hectic schedule, so I appreciate the opportunity to pause and reflect (in Japanese!) with 奈良さん :) The vocabulary sheets she sends with definitions and even pictures to help me internalise the new words that came up organically during our conversations are also super helpful. Thankful for another fruitful year of learning Japanese with 奈良さん!

Even though 私の日本語わまだ下手です、Nara 先生 was super patient and helpful! I have just started to learn Japanese and I think it’s better and more important to study with a teacher who is only speaking Japanese to you so that you don’t rely on your ability to communicate in English. I was nervous to try, but I definitely think if you’re serious about learning then jumping off the deep end and staying consistent with trying will really help you get the results you want! ありがとうございます！I will definitely continue to study and take lessons!
