I’m a Korean person born and raised in the U.S. and fall into that all-too-familiar camp of having fairly good comprehension capacity but coming up short in my conversational ability. After expressing my desire to improve in my speaking skills and sound more like a native Korean speaker, 시니 has organized our lessons to involve full-fledged conversations all the while gently providing feedback on different ways that my grammar, sentence structure, and word choice can be improved as we go. I’ve never met a teacher as passionate and hard-working as 시니. It’s been a joy learning with him! I promise that you will also be able to experience that for yourself after meeting with him.

Shinnie continues to amaze me as a teacher with every single lesson. I don't believe there are many other teachers or resources out there that can come close to the amount of skill and knowledge that Shinnie brings to teaching language. I recently approached him with some ideas of what I wanted to say in a letter to a friend, and he helped me organize my thoughts and translate everything into a more native-sounding structure. He was so kind and helpful with the corrections, all while teaching me new words and grammar throughout. He is firm when it comes to reinforcing effective practice strategies and won't hesitate to correct a poor mindset or approach, but is always kind and gentle throughout the process and has never made me feel ashamed of making mistakes. It's clear that Shinnie truly cares about his students and their progress, and his passion and dedication to teaching shines through always. I'm honestly so grateful that I found Shinnie, and I look forward to every lesson.

I had another wonderful lesson with Shinnie. His teaching style is easy to follow and when he explains things in Korean it is always in a comprehensible way. The lessons are always fun, interesting and engaging. One thing I particularly enjoy is that his lessons are structured with his own curriculum, but that he is free to change it according to your needs. We have started doing mainly conversations nowadays, and even though my speaking is nowhere near as fluent, he is really patient and makes me feel comfortable. Which allowed me to have more confidence in my ability to speak and hold at least some small conversations (I think). Besides that it’s good to discuss my findings during immersion with Shinnie, because he has a great understanding of the language. Overall, I would highly recommend Shinnie to anyone looking for a Korean tutor on italki. They are knowledgeable, patient, and adept at tailoring their lessons to the student's specific needs and interests.

This now only my 7th class and I am already able to have a free conversation confidently with the word list I have, but most importantly understanding the grammar. I am always excited for class because I know I am going to improve. I also love how I don’t have to be scared to make a mistake because not only will he correct me, but continue to encourage me to try again. I can trust his feedback and am grateful I have continued being taught by him!

I’ve had many teachers who have been kind and nice and thoughtful BUT Teacher Shinnie is ALL THOSE THINGS and ALSO extremely resourceful, organized, motivating and engaging. On our last lesson I learned so much and was able to practice so many things in just one hour, and he made sure every single one of them made sense. Teacher Shinnie even corrected a grammar mistake that I’ve been making for years and took the time to explain how to use it correctly and now I finally fully grasped how and when to use it. I feel very motivated and excited to keep learning. I wish I started with Teacher Shinnie from Day 1 but I’m glad to have found him and learn from him now! 감사합니다 선생님 ^^

This was my first lesson and as soon as we got on I felt comfortable. He was honest, patient, and really clear about the goals that would help me be most successful! I was hesitant to start, but before our lesson even ended, I was already mentally planning my budget and which days I could book for my next lessons! If you’re scared about doing it out of embarrassment (me), just do it anyways. We all have to start somewhere and I’m glad I started with him! You got this!
